National Communications Consultant at the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF)

Job Title: National Communications Consultant for the Joint SDG Programme on Social Protection

How can you make a difference?

  • The overall objective of the assignment is to development of high-quality visual materials, outreach brochures, and policy notes, including but not limited to graphic designing, development of infographics, and illustrating several strategic documents based on the target audience to be addressed (beneficiaries and policymakers, legislators, local authorities, community leaders, thoughts leaders, media, parents, teachers, care workers, and children) to support the effective communication and outreach of the JPs potential impact and expected outcomes.
  • Additionally, the enhanced communal engagement of women and adolescent girls in social behavioral change communication activities strengthens the effort to reduce infant and child mortality due to malnutrition.

The Consultant will be responsible for using his/her expertise and state of the art software and hardware to provide design services and produce high-quality products according to PUNO’s needs, including:

  • Designing brochures, banners, newsletters, fact sheets, briefing notes, and other such publications to support the JP to communicate their expected goals and potential in the most effective and compelling way;
  • Design infographics, data visualization, and fact graphs for print and/or digital platforms, and UN agencies intranet and social media platforms (Facebook; Twitter; Instagram) to raise awareness on the importance of the JP to expand the social protection system and provide access to vulnerable families to basic services and social protection schemes.
  • Liaise with Programme staff to identify relevant programme areas and counterparts to engage in developing the Human-Interest stories and photographs, including travel to programme locations to capture activities.
  • Develop communication plan and also an end of project brochure detailing all the project achievements
  • Identify innovative communication channels to deliver the messages using communication tools that are fit for purpose and adapted to the target groups.
  • Video documentation to align with implementation or monitoring efforts to capture key moments and interviews throughout the life of the Joint Programme, including facilitating the production of a series of videos to:
    • Communicate what the Joint Programme is and the importance for the use of social protection;
    • Communicate key results of the Joint Programme; and
    • Provide footage for the creation of a 3-minute final video to showcase the journey of change resulting from the Joint Programme to be shared across other countries in the region.
  • Produce texts, blogs, and audio-visual messages on human-interest stories, based on key achievements and implementation of JP to showcase the results achieved and the expected results to beneficiaries and donors

Qualifications
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, or other related fields with five (5) years of work experience in the field of media relations, journalism, or/and communication.
  • Developing country work experience and/or familiarity with emergency is considered an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish) or a local language is an asset.
